It’s the 30th Anniversary for Valley Children’s Kids Day.

This fundraiser has been going on since 1988. In an article from ABC30 written by Vanessa Vasconcelos , she reports that the person who started this is all was Don Postles. “I think it’s very important for everyone in life to give back I’m proud as can be that I gave that to the Fresno and the Central Valley, and I’m tickled pink that it continues to grow every year,” says Don Postle in Vasconcelos’ article.

What is done at the fundraiser? Well, different volunteers from around each participating city line up on the sidewalks and intersections to sell a special newspapers dedicated to the hospital. This newspaper is “A special edition from the Fresno Bee” with the articles covering the hospital, the facilities, cost, and actual patients.

Every year the newspaper sponsors 30 new children from the Valley Children’s Hospital and their story. Each newspaper costs $1, but some people give more. All the money that they earn then goes to kids at Valley Children’s to help with their medical expenses and whatever treatment they need.

In an article, from The Fresno Bee, written by Craig Kohlruss, he reported that together The Fresno Bee and ABC30 have raised about $8 million for the hospital. Every year the amount they get from the fundraiser increases.
