Creative Writing Club Showcases Talent at Conference

Pricilla Ceja, Staff Reporter

LBHS had 11 students submit creative writing pieces to the Fresno State’s Young Writers’ Conference and attend the conference earlier this month.  Four of our students won awards and had their writing pieces published in the journal the conference creates.

The following students participated and won the following awards:
1. Mariela Velis (12) won the Fresno Poets’ Association Award for her poem: “Breathing Night.”
2. Arzan Kermani (12) won the Normal School award for his creative nonfiction piece: “Thanksgiving.”
3. Carolyn Allen (12) won the San Joaquin Literary Association Award for her short story: “Freeing A Falcon.”
4. Sebastian Greer (11) was an honorable mention for his poem: “A Reflection of Time: A Zuihitsu.”

These awards represent lots of talent and hard work writing and revising pieces. Congratulate these students when you see them around campus, and if you have creative writing ideas, consider  joining the Creative Writing Club!

See Mrs. DeGough in Room 33 if you questions or are interested in joining the club.
