Los Banos girls basketball, softball, and baseball teams are hosting the Surf & Turf Dinner at the D.E.S hall November 15. This fundraiser includes dinner, silent auction, and live auction to help raise money for their teams.
Basketball player Cienna Howard (11) stated, “The money can benefit my team to provide new jerseys, travel expenses, and new equipment.”
With money coming in from the community, the girls basketball team is able to compete as well as book hotels to stay in while attending tournaments.
Softball player Malia Fuentes (11) stated, “The money can benefit my team by getting us new equipment, uniforms, and even letting us play in more tournaments.”
Tournaments are like practice and with extra practice it gives the team an opportunity to connect and get more reps.
The dinner isn’t just about the sports though, Howard said, “The Surf & Turf Dinner helps connect our community by making them feel involved in our program.”
Having community support is important when raising money for sports programs as well as having support out at games to cheer on the teams.
Fuentes also said, “I think the dinner really helps to connect the community to the sports because it helps them feel like they’re making a direct impact and they get to visually see who the kids are that they’re helping.”
Not only are the supporters able to see the athletes but the kids are able to see who is supporting them and their athletic careers.
Fuentes said, “My favorite part about serving food is getting to see how much everyone genuinely enjoys, going to the dinner and supporting our sports,”
This fundraiser is a way to benefit the athletes with new things like equipment but also community service experience.
Howard stated, “My favorite part about serving food is having the opportunity to provide for my community.”
The Surf & Turf is used in a way to allow the community to engage with their local athletes as well as have a good time while providing funding to the sports programs.
