Los Banos High’s boys basketball game against Merced was a great game for our varsity boys.  This was a great turn around from last year, losing 80-50.

To start off the game, Kayson Welch, did the tip off against Merced’s #11, John Simpson. The Tigers won the tip off, and started off hot making the game 8-0 in the first minute. The Bears were able to take the ball down easily. But great Tiger defense kept them from scoring.  Great blocks by Kayson Welch, made the crowd electric.  Throughout the first half, the Tigers kept their lead, even though #1 of Merced started to get hot, it was not enough to come back.  The Tigers adapted to how Merced was playing, kept their cool, and kept balling out.  The Tigers ended the second quarter confidently, going into the second half.

To start the second half, the score was 42-21, but the Tigers did not stop there.  The Tigers kept their full court press up all game. Great passes down the court helped the Tigers get quick buckets, and kept the ball in their hands.  Kayson Welch kept scoring, as he put up 17 points. “I had a chip on my shoulder after last year’s loss. I had to get my get backs.” Indeed Welch got his get backs.  By the end of the game, it was a close score. The Tigers took the game 61-38.

This was a great game for the Tigers, after beating a great Merced team. The players will keep playing stronger and with more confidence.
