As a Tigers high school senior, I believe our theme for prom could have been selected much differently. The 2022-23 school year consists of a prom theme called Tuscan Sunset for the Coyote Ranch setting in Morgan Hill.

It is my understanding that the junior class chose a theme for our prom, and though I cannot complain about how much time and effort they will put into this dance to make it the best experience, the theme caught me and many of my senior friends off guard.

Again, I cannot complain about how much effort they put into prom. The theme could have been something that didn’t look as if it was some type of wedding. The location is beautiful. I cannot lie, but two barn proms in the past two years?

There definitely needs to be a change in how they choose the idea of prom. Prom should be a memorable moment for all students at LBHS. Our location could have been mixed with a theme choice that the seniors prefer.  Seniors need a vote for their own theme choice!  Juniors could have created a google form asking our seniors to provide theme ideas and then they could have narrow it down to another google form with the top five popular themes suggested. Juniors then could have chosen from this list or asked for a final vote to finalize the theme choice. This could have given a better idea of what our prom theme could have been. I felt like we had great choices already this year.  What happened to the masquerade? or the forest theme? 

I believe that prom could be some type of an allusion to the old movies some teens have watched growing up such as, “Pretty in Pink.” It doesn’t have to be perfectly alike, but something more different with more thought.

I cannot lie. I appreciate the work and effort the juniors or anyone else put into the prom, but the idea of our theme should have been chosen differently. Many of us are disappointed with the process for selecting prom themes, and we are saddened by our final choice for this year.  Decisions regarding senior activities should involve seniors.  This would make the events more memorable and special to seniors in their last year of high school.
