The Los Banos Tigers football team have finally defeated Orestimba after two consecutive losses in the past three years. The game took place September 1, 2023.
When asked about their expectations going into the game, Adan Salas, linebacker for the Tigers, stated, “I was expecting us to be more aggressive and dominant on both sides of the ball, but we didn’t kick into our next gear until after the first half.”
The game started off great with Cole Ramos, starting middle linebacker, blocking and catching a punt for a touchdown. The Tigers had all the momentum right from the start until everything slowed down right away. The Tigers offense went three and out and could only find the endzone at once more in the first half. The defense held the Orestimba Warriors to only one score in the first half. The score going into half was 12-7.
Although the Tigers started the first half off very slow, they looked like a whole different team coming out in the second half. They scored on almost every drive with Yahir Zuniga catching two touchdown passes from quarterback David Herrera who also ran a score in himself. Joel Alvarenga scored the last touchdown for the Tigers on a 30+ yard run. The final score of the game was 34-14 with your very own Tigers coming out on top.
When asked about what they could have done better as an individual, Bobby Roque, the starting Left Guard for the Tigers, stated, “I could’ve held my blocks better and stayed on my tracks to make sure I didn’t lose my assigned guy.”
Yahir Zuniga, the starting wide receiver for the Tigers offense, said that he hopes to have a 1,000 receiving yard season with 12 touchdowns. The Tigers look forward to their 2023-2024 season and hope to become WAC champions again for the 2nd year in a row. The Tigers next game is September 15 against the Beyer Patriots at Johansen High School.
