Aug. 25th, 2023 Los Banos High beat Dos Palos High 33-22 for the second year in a row at home.
Players Ramon Mondragon, Yahir Zuniga, and Adan Salas were all feeling nervous but excited walking into the DP game. Starting quarterback David Herrera said, “I was feeling good, wasn’t nervous. The team had a good practice and wanted to win as much as I did.”
In the first quarter, David Herrera handed the ball to Cole Ramos running down the middle for 13 yards and into the end zone for the first touchdown of the game making the score 7-0 LB.
Salas stated his prediction of the game would be 35-24, he thought it would be a close game because of the team’s intense rivalry within the years. Zuniga stated his prediction for the game would be, “35-21 Los Banos.”
With 33 seconds left in the first quarter, David Herrera handed the ball to Joel Alvarenga for the second touchdown of the game making it 14-7 LB.
Zuniga said his favorite moment of the game was, “… running down the bleachers before the game and seeing the crowd hyped for the first time this season.”
Mondragon said his favorite moment of the game was holding the hay trophy after LB took the win. Salas said his favorite moment of the game was stepping on the field for the last first time of his high school career.
With 6 minutes and one second left in the third quarter, David Herrera ran the ball for four yards and into the end zone making the score 22-14 LB.
