Have you thought about ways to improve the quality of your life? Have you wanted to make healthier lifestyle changes? If you answered yes, then have you met the new wellness counselor? Mrs.Jazmin Landeros is the new wellness counselor for the 2023-2024 school.
Her days involve various types of counseling, wellness checks and many other things. The main goal of the wellness counseling is to be able to help students process their feelings/thoughts and teach them productive ways to cope with different situations. Mrs. Landeros said, “I really try to teach students how to self-regulation skills, meaning ways to better understand/ process emotions so that students can manage stress, depression, etc. for experiences later in life. This can also be skills to better prioritize stresses in one’s life.I also teach a lot of self-awareness (social, emotional, and spatial) so helping students understand themselves better and ways to be more aware of decision/ consequences.”
The different types of counseling she offers are one-on-one counseling, group counseling, and parent counseling.
Mrs. Landeros was born and raised in Los Banos. She graduated from LBHS in 2012. She received her associate degree with Merced College and her Bachelor of Arts with CSU Stanislaus. She also received her Master in Psychology with Fresno Pacific.
Her inspiration to work at LBHS is that she can connect with the parents because she has three daughters, one of whom is a teenager on campus. She knew she always wanted to help with children’s corrections, but she did not know she would get the job when she applied.
She worked as a behavior based safety and a substitute teacher for elementary schools in the Los Banos school district for seven years. Mrs. Landeros believes her past experiences helped her get this position. She is excited for her first year as a counselor and helping teens enter adulthood.
Her personal focus is helping students in foster care, low income families, and juvenile youth. She plans to bring a sense of community to campus and help with homeless/ foster teens.
Mrs. Landeros also has a wellness club that will help bring awareness to her field, as well as career help for the students who want to take this counseling path. Her club initiatives include: exploring careers in mental health/psychology, providing resources and opportunities for youth, and improving human connection.
If you need anything, you can contact her by setting up an appointment through her QR code or going to room 47.
