It’s a new year at Los Banos which means the chess club is back. With two new leaders Aleksey Dvorkin (12) as the president and Grant Jones (12) as the vice president, the chess club is back and better than ever.
Dvorkin who is a returning member of the chess club said, “Chess is a great extracurricular activity and builds thinking skills for people of all ages.”
The club prides itself on creating a friendly and welcoming environment where all students can be themselves and make new friends. If students are ever hesitant about joining the chess club, they will instantly feel welcomed into the club because of the friendly environment, but there is also a good amount of competitive vibe in the club.
When asked what’s their favorite part of chess, Ashton Kirschman (12) said, “I like chess because of the complexity, and it being an extension of your mind and never ending which makes it fun to play.”
Aleksey Dvorkin added, “The strategy aspect of chess makes it great if you want a fun and challenging game to play.”
Dvorkin also said, “Chess builds thinking whether you’re new or an experienced player.”
The chess club started September 5 and meets in room 410 at lunch in Mr. Tugman’s room every Tuesday of the month. New members and players at are welcome to join at all times.
