The Los Banos Tigers High School women’s tennis team prepares for the upcoming season.
Coming into the 2023/2024 season, the tennis team has a lot to prove. The team is composed of talented, hard-working athletes who have a passion for the sport.
The girl’s tennis team has an exhibition and a varsity squad which looks to improve their game. Ava Felix (11) varsity tennis player stated, “I definitely am looking forward to improving my footwork and hitting skills.”
With that being said, the question “what is your biggest goal for this season” was mentioned and Felix said, “I really want to get into singles this year.”
The girl’s tennis team comes into this season very confidently. They look to defeat big teams from the WAC League like Mountain House, Beyer, and Pacheco. JT Barcellos, the assistant tennis coach said, “There are many tough teams in our league, but I feel like Mountain House is always our toughest.”
Last season, the Mountain House Mustangs had a season sweep on the Lady Tigers. The first time the Tigers and Mustangs met, the Mustangs won 6 – 3. The second time they met, they won 8 – 1. The Tigers are looking forward to defeating them after years of losing.
The exhibition team for tennis is the lower level for varsity. There are many young ladies working hard and giving it their all to make varsity. Dallas Clark, an exhibition tennis player stated, “Being on exhibition, I don’t get as much playing time, I don’t get to travel as much, and I don’t get many opportunities.” Being on varsity gives you more experiences, more chances to play, and more time to bond with the team.
Currently, the The Lady Tigers are 3-1 in league. They play the Ceres Bulldogs on September 18th. This will be their 4th game of league so far. The Tigers are on pace to have a great season!
