Los Banos High celebrated its first dance of the year, Freshmen Reception dance on August 26, 2023 in the multipurpose room. The dance was organized by the senior class officers: Ava Menefee, Emma Zuniga, Kali Goodger, and David Herra.
The four class officers helped make all of the prices, organized the dance, and cleaned up at the end of the night. Menefee, the class president said “The planning of this event took me about two weeks to complete.”
With over 55 seniors/freshmen in attendance, Freshman Reception can be an exciting and nerve racking experience for the incoming freshmen as they are welcomed by upperclassmen. The theme of the dance was Tropical Get Away with floaties for fun. The dance held activities such as cornhole, hanging out with friends and dancing to the DJ. Refreshments and dessert were also served.
Menefee also stated, “Freshman Reception was a really fun experience for me to plan, along with the other class officers. I would really recommend other students to run for class officers because it really taught me how to become responsible and also taught me how to work with other students.”
David Herra and Jackson Silva who both attended the dance with their freshmen dates Janelle Leon and Addison Melden said, “The dance was really fun, plus we got to hang out with our friends and everyone got along with each other pretty well.”
They both also stated, “We would recommend other students to participate in this school activity for the experience and to enjoy the time at the high school.”
Senior Evan Rebosa also mentioned, “Overall my experience at Freshman Reception was pretty fun, as I got to welcome my freshman Cienna Howard to the school and how I got to introduce her to the upperclassmen. I also recommend more students to participate because it’s a new way to help freshmen and teach them the thing we got to learn over the years. Other schools might not do this, but it’s a great way to welcome a freshman knowing that high school can sometimes be very frightening.”
