One of the most stressful times for seniors has begun! College applications! University College (UC) applications started August 1 and California State University (CSU) will begin October 1.
Since August 1, when University of California Admissions website for applications opened (see link), seniors have been able to start the application process. The UC applications are available online to be filled out. This application is a longer process and asks for more detailed information including Personal Insight Questions (PIQ’s), personal information with your household and family, what campus students want to go to along with their major and an alternate major, academic history, scholarships they are eligible for, and activities outside and inside of school like work experience and community service, and sports.
Senior counselor Mrs. Katy Leeper said, “If you’re eligible, apply! Take advantage of the opportunities and go for it.” It is recommended that students apply everywhere, even places they feel they may not get accepted in because students might have an opportunity to attend. The UC applications will close November 30.
The CSU applications open October 1 and closing dates vary depending on the colleges seniors are looking to apply to. While this process will be a bit shorter than the UC applications, it will consist of some of the same questions.
College and Career Counselor, Ms. San Juana Gonzalez said, “Get it done as soon as possible; there are lots of applications open.” She also said to have a backup plan and to apply everywhere and take risks.
Both Mrs. Leeper and Ms. Gonzalez said the most common feelings and emotions they see from seniors during these times are excitement and nervousness.
Senior Evan Rebosa said he is stressed with the college application process starting and that the UC application was easy to start but there are a lot of steps to it. He also said he is interested in going to San Diego State University, UC Santa Barbara, Grand Canyon University, and University of Oregon.
Rebosa said, “I’m most scared of not getting accepted to a college I want to go to.”
Another senior feeling the pressure is Mia Llanez who said, “In the process it has made me very nervous and makes me rethink my choices about where I want to go.”
Llanez said she is interested in going to the University of Hawaii Manoa and any UC in California. She also said she is scared of making the wrong choice of college and regretting where she goes or what she majors in.
If you have any questions or any trouble with your applications or need any additional information you can go to room 703 and ask for Ms. Gonzalez or head to the attendance office and ask to speak with senior counselor, Mrs. Leeper.
