Students and staff participated in the Homecoming dress-up week from September 18-22 in order to show their school spirit.
Monday (9/18) was the dress up day, Cruisin for a Bruisin (bikers vs. surfers). Many people seemed to be dressing up more with surfer and Hawaiian gear, so it is easy to say surfers won this challenge. Tuesday (9/19) was the Disco Dress Day. We had a couple of people dressing up in bell bottom jeans and colorful shirts. A few people were wearing bandannas as well. Wednesday (9/20) was Rock Band Day in which everyone who participated wore graphic tees of their favorite rock bands and even painted their faces. Thursday’s dress up day (9/21) was Straight Out the 90’s which was mainly street wear clothing. A lot of people wore flannels, jerseys and baggy jeans. Lastly, Friday was Neon Day! The student section during the Friday night game was very colorful and bright which looked amazing, while glowing with school spirit!
Over three-hundred students and most of the staff had participated in the dress-up week. The most school spirit shown would lead to the winner of homecoming royalty. Pawprint set up a poll through a Google form to find out which dress up day was the favorite among students. The results showed the most favored dress-up day was Straight out of 90’s. The runner up was Cruisin for a Bruisin. For all the students who participated during the dress-up week, they had a chance to earn PRIDE cards to spend in the student store.
ASB Advisor, Mr. Frank Leonard said, “Homecoming week was a true success. Over three hundred tickets were sold for the dance, we had many compliments from locals around town during the homecoming parade, and students seemed to be having a great time at the dance this weekend.”
Leonard also stated that the theme was picked based on the sophomore’s choice of the theme for the dance and then ASB came up with dress up days. The third period ASB class creates the dress up days and fourth period ASB class organizes it and revises it. Using the five-star app, students could check in to confirm that they dressed up that day. The results showed that seniors contributed the most school spirit with the dress up days this year! One thing that was considered stressful for the ASB team to put the homecoming week on was the short amount of time they had with so much to handle. Leonard also claimed, “With this being my first year with a new position, it was a lot to handle but became a big turnout.”
Leonard also wanted to provide a shout out to only a few of many of the ASB students who make a big impact: Melanie Espino (12), who runs and organizes the student store; Fernanda Perez Valdez, a senior ASB officer, who puts her effort into the rallies; Cassidy Barcellos (11) who gets our student section hype; Alejandra Palominos Perez, the senior social media coordinator which is claimed to be the busiest committee; Athena Donahue (12), who creates and helps with announcements and video footage; and lastly, Destiny Herrerra (12), who is put in charge of Birthday Grams.
