Cheering loudly… blowing horns… throwing powder in the air! This is the Los Banos high school homecoming game’s student section!
Homecoming game was on September 22, 2023 in the Loftin stadium. The student section was organized by Maddy Jasso (12), America Ordunez(12), and other students in ASB.
All students in grades 9 through 12 can attend the games and show off their school spirit. It’s a fun opportunity for everyone to come together and cheer on the team. The student section at high school football games is absolutely electric. It’s filled with enthusiastic students cheering, chanting, and showing off their school spirit. It’s a vibrant and energetic atmosphere that adds to the excitement of the game.
The theme of the student section during homecoming was neon.
Jasso and Ordunez said, “Since the theme of our entire homecoming was ‘The Eras Tour,’ we knew that whatever our student section was, that it needed to be within the theme. We immediately thought of Katy Perry’s ‘Last Friday Night’ which is overall just a super fun and colorful music video, so we decided that as our inspiration for the 2000s. We chose to go with neon since it would be easy enough for our students to dress up but also at the same time fun and interactive. We used colored powder to celebrate our team’s touchdown and great plays.”
Ordunez added, “At the start of the week as a class we discuss what we want the theme to be and from that point we get to work on creating posters and social media posts to get the word out. Overall the work pays off and I love seeing all the Tiger Pride.”
Half time is another section of time our students look forward to as the audience gets to watch and support our cheerleaders. Their impressive routines and stunts showcase their talent and dedication to students, parents, and bystanders at the games. Occasionally, the student section will sing along and dance to their music.
Jianna Bretz (12) said, “I feel like the student section is really what everyone looks forward to. I think for the most part everyone gets along and supports our football players. My favorite part of the student section is on game days where there is powder. All the students enjoy it.”
The student section looks forward to half the game after the Tigers football team takes an a win where all the students rush the field to rally up and get together to take pictures and congratulate our players.
Grant Jones (12) mentioned, “I would give my experience an overall 9 out of 10. I have a great time when I’m up there! It’s fun to get everyone hyped; I do a pretty good job at that. Music is also pretty good. A lot of great songs that everyone knows; it’s nice when everyone can sing along and has a great time.”
