Coach Issac Soliz has been coaching volleyball for 10 years now. He began coaching in 2015, and has been the girls varsity volleyball coach for four years.
Soliz was encouraged to begin coaching because of his uncle, who was the boys volleyball coach and brought him along to help. He really enjoyed helping the athletes get better everyday, eventually leading him to start coaching girls volleyball. Being able to see athletes’ skills improve every year, watching them grow, and helping them develop as people is what he has enjoyed most in his career as a coach.
“That’s what kind of inspired me, just being able to help in more ways than just volleyball, a lot of ways in life too. So that’s what honestly really has inspired me and encouraged me to keep going and try to get better,” said Soliz, often referred to as Coach Issac.
When asked what he thought about the upcoming volleyball game against our rival school Pacheco, Soliz said, “Games against Pacheco are always very interesting no matter what the teams’ records are just because both schools obviously want to beat one another. But you know I also enjoy when they are close and they’re competitive because when both teams are playing at high levels, it creates intensity and an exciting rivalry. It’s no fun when one school is just constantly beating the other….”
On September 26, 2023 Los Banos Girls Varsity Volleyball won their game against Pacheco High school, defeating them 3-0.
It was an exciting and competitive game with high levels of intensity as the games were all close sets, with only a couple points of advantage, but our girls varsity volleyball team executed and won all three sets consecutively.
All levels came out victorious in this battle and the next game against Pacheco High will be on October 18, 2023.
The team’s strengths are that they are really scrappy or in other words determined, they go after every ball, and there’s never a dull moment with this team. There’s always fun in playing and competing; the spirit and desire to play does not die.
The future is bright for girls volleyball as there is a good group of athletic freshmen and sophomores coming up to the varsity level. The girls will be in a harder league next year for volleyball, which will bring on challenges for them to face. Soliz wishes to create a travel team for the girls in the near future to help continue developing their skills and make a strong team for the next upcoming seasons.
The team is having a E- Team sponsor fundraiser. Anyone can support it here through this link, Los Banos High School Girls Volleyball campaign page, or people can go to their Instagram @lbhs_girlsvball for anyone who would like to support and donate. It would really be appreciated. All the funds go back to the girls to buy new jerseys, shirts, and equipment needed for the future. They are also selling ads and sponsorships for the big screen in the Tiger gym.
