The Tigers football team took on the Grace Davis Spartans this past week for their homecoming game and for their first league home game at Loftin Stadium. The Tigers did not allowed any points so far this season in their league games and look to keep it that way.
The game started off with the Tigers getting the ball first to start off the game. The drive ended with Cade Torres (12) scoring a rushing touchdown for seven yards to start off the game strong for the Tigers. The defense held up the Spartans by turning the ball over on downs. This led to a 27 yard touchdown by Joel Alvarenga (12) to put the Tigers up 15-0. The Tigers were looking to rout out the Spartans by the defense forcing them to punt and giving the Tigers a chance to score again. The Tiger offense marched down the field and scored once again by Alvarenga for an eight yard rushing touchdown.
By halftime the Tigers were up 28–0 and the game looked to be finished, yet the Tigers were not satisfied as they wanted more.
Alvarenga stated, “Going into halftime we felt really good. The energy was definitely there in every single player. We worked hard all week and it felt good to be dominating at half. At the same time though everyone in that locker room knew the job wasn’t finished and we still had more business to handle.” Alvarenga ended up finishing the game with 11 carries, 127 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
The Spartans started off with the ball to begin the second half of the game. The Spartans did end up scoring against the Tigers by one yard rushing touchdown to bring the score to 28-6. Yet that was the only time the Spartans would score against the Tigers, as the Tigers continued to dominate for the rest of the game by the help of a kick return touchdown by Raul Diaz (10) for 60 yards and 28 yard rushing touchdown by David Herrera (12) to bring the game to an end with a final score of 45-6.
The Tigers showed no mercy for the Spartans as they demonstrated to be the more disciplined and better team.
