The Los Banos Tigers varsity football team looked to continue their winning streak as they took on Mountain House at Loftin Stadium to better their chances of winning their league title.
The Mustangs would get the ball first to begin the game and would score in just two plays to shock the Tigers with a quick 7-0 lead. However, the Tigers responded quickly with a 14 yard rushing touchdown by the quarterback, David Herrera (12). The Tigers defense needed to hold back the Mustangs offense, but the Mustangs were able to score again to bring the game to a 13-6 lead for Mountain House. Though the Tigers offense kept the team in the game due to a 27 yard touchdown pass to Yahir Zuniga (11) to bring the game to 14-13 lead for the Tigers. These two teams were going back and forth in the first half of the game, yet the Tigers did come out on top in the first half 25-22.
The Tigers defense needed to figure out how to stop the Mustangs offense in order to keep the lead and come out of this game victorious.
Starting strong safety, Cade Torres stated, “The team felt anxious after the half, but we wanted to finish the game strong after fighting so hard in the first half.”
The second half of the game opened with the Tigers scoring first with a four yard rushing touchdown by Joel Alvaranga (12). The Tigers defense seemed to make adjustments during halftime because the Mustangs would not score at all during the second half of the game. While on the other side of the ball, the Tigers offense kept putting pressure on the Mustangs defense as they would once again score again by a 30 yard rushing touchdown by David Herrera (12). The Tigers would go on to victoriously finish the game, 45-22.
The Tigers were put in a test at home, but they learned and adjusted and came out as the winner in this league match-up against Mountain House.
