The job search for students in Los Banos has been quite challenging these past few months.
Many students have been applying for jobs all across town in Los Banos, but seemingly finding no luck. Many have considered the possibilities for this but cannot seem to find the solution. From personal experience, finding a job has been excruciating. Whether it be because of young age, no work experience, or untrustworthiness, employers are making it very difficult to find a job here in town.
A recent September 15, 2023 article called, “Understanding America’s Labor Shortage: The Most Impacted States” from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce stated, “America is facing a worker shortage crisis: There are too many open jobs without people to fill them.” So it seems that the hiring problem shouldn’t be real right? Wrong, although this article can state that there is a shortage of workers in the U.S., those who are willing to work are simply not being considered for jobs due to various reasons.
Since the job search, I have applied almost everywhere in town, from fast food chains to commercial shopping. Most of these employers are not looking to consider those without work experience. This has made it very difficult for a lot of students to find a successful job opportunity. Speaking with a few students who have secured a job they stated, “You have to know someone.” This is unfair to most because those who are willing to work the hours and days are not being qualified for job opportunities.
Even considering all the ad listings across town saying “We’re hiring,” it only seems to be that these companies are hiring select people. Now for my issue, I believe that only being available during the weekends due to sports could be the problem. But those who do not participate in sports that are also looking for a job can agree that employers are making the job search difficult in many ways. If companies are listing that they are hiring, then these companies could speed up the reviewing process of applications and give students a chance because we want to work, and we want and need money. Give the younger generation a chance when reviewing our applications.
