Junior year in high school is known to be the hardest year of high school. With many academic challenges, college preparation, personal growth, and maturity, the days can feel very stressful for many high school students.
Caleb Avalos (11) said junior year has been tough with lots of homework and studying which he feels is very time consuming.
Junior year can be so tough because it is the year where the curriculum is harder with a lot more homework and studying compared to freshman and sophomore year. In addition, juniors need to start preparing for college, getting their grades in order for college applications, and review and complete needed credits for graduation. This makes the year very important and there’s a lot of pressure to succeed.
Paarth Sarai (11) said he is feeling good about junior year and while the work is tough, he is making sure to be productive and keep up with the work, while Ava Felix (11) said she is feeling good and that it has been kind of slow but good.
Junior year is a very important year in their high school careers. It is the year before their senior year and all their credits and grades matter the most in preparation to graduate. Mr. Daniel Chavez, junior counselor said, “It is very important to keep up with your grades and get the credits you need to graduate as this year is a vital point in your high school career.”
Chavez said he sees students in the Class of 2025 feeling very stressed trying to keep up with their grades and make their senior year as easy as possible. Many students can help alleviate this stress by keeping up with work in their classes, ask for help, and use Pride Time to get caught up in all subjects.
Felix said, “I stay up late to do my homework and study constantly.”
Avalos and Sarai said they are using Pride Time and setting time aside outside of school to make sure they are caught up in his classes and getting all their homework done while also studying.
Pride time is an extra class period in the school schedule that is given to all students to use as a study hall, to make sure you get all and any work that you need to get done and make up work you may be missing.
Chavez said, “Make sure you pass your core classes and to sign up for Pride Time.”
While junior year can be tough, there are also many positives to the third year of high school. Avalos said, “I am very excited for the basketball and volleyball season to start because it is very fun to watch my friends play.” Felix said that she is excited for track season and prom. Sarai said, “I’m excited to finally be an upperclassman and facing a new challenge,” as he enjoys school and loves a good challenge.
