Drama Club is in full swing and ready to go this year. Under a new advisor, Ms. Zorra, the club has been busy selecting a play and beginning rehearsals.
Zorra said she heard people talking about the club and it was in the back of her mind for awhile. She stated, “What brought it up to my attention were a few teachers and a wide variety of students, and it was always brought up with the way I dress up some days, with some saying I really fit the part.”
Students telling her about it got Zorra curious and she really wanted to see how far she could take this idea of becoming the actual runner of the club. With her mind made up, she was prepared for students to join. There are now around 35 Drama Club active members.
Zorra was asked about how the sign ups went and she stated, “I am extremely happy with how it turned out. It makes me happy and excited that students are interested in the world of Drama/Theatre. They are so involved and passionate to be a part of it and ready for their hopefully first play.”
With a single play not being held in the last few years, Ms. Zorra has a lot in mind. She stated, “We have our first set play to be held on December 8-10 and the 17.” The play is called “The Election.” There were many of the club members who auditioned for a part in this play.
The play is about eight diverse students attempting to run for the student body president who only have two minutes to present their platform to convince fellow students to vote for them. Every candidate represents different school stereotypes and their speeches range from serious to hilarious, to even the extreme absurd. The plot twist includes all candidates coming together to solve a school wide problem causing many of the candidates to understand their fellow students are more important than winning the election.
Zorra said, “I am extremely proud of how good it’s going so far with just the students being involved and wanting to be a part of this with finally doing a real play.”
She has big goals for the club in terms of future productions. “Our goal as a Drama Club is hopefully teaming up with choir and creating a musical that could be held in hopefully May of 2024.”
The performance will be held in the MPB room and fully open to the public with an entry of around five dollars. This money raised will be used for future plays.
Ms. Zorra is currently in her fifth year of teaching, and she also runs the Anime Club and the Dungeons and Dragons Club.
