Are you looking for a new one-stop shop for your favorite chilled treats and savory snacks? Look no further than La Autentica Ice Cream & Snacks, a brand-new ice cream shop here in Los Banos.
La Autentica opened only two weeks ago on September 23, 2023. The first thing you’ll notice when you walk in for the first time is the welcoming ambiance and uplifting atmosphere. It’s easy to feel welcomed here as it is a family-run business. I had the pleasure of interviewing sisters, Yajahira and Kimberly.
Yajahira and Kimberly shared how they always loved making different types of snacks and experimenting with different flavor combinations. This gave them the business idea to open a paleteria and snack shop of their own.
The journey to opening was not an easy one. “It took a year and a half to be able to open our shop. We began the project in May of last year and planned to open that summer, but the process took a lot longer than expected,” said Yajahira. It could’ve been easy to lose motivation and patience, but when you have so much inspiration and drive to accomplish something, especially with your family by your side, success is possible.
La Autentica has a little of everything on the menu for customers to choose from. They have milkshakes, fresas con crema, many varieties of prepared elote, mangonadas & fresadas, obispos (which are raspados with a scoop of ice cream on top), bionicos, crepas, nachos, paletas, and ice cream. However, the sky’s the limit at La Autentica! Even if it’s not on the menu, they will happily prepare any cravings at your request.
There are many things to love about running La Autentica, according to Yajahira and Kimberly. Their favorite things about running the shop are getting to meet their clientele and strike up conversations with regulars. Kimberly noted how enjoyable it is to have a customer come in, asking for something that isn’t on the menu, and being able to make it to their request. Seeing the customer’s satisfaction with the shop going above and beyond for their clientele brings a sense of fulfillment for both Kimberly and the customer.
I asked Kimberly and Yajahira for their favorite menu items. Kimberly says that she loves the Fresada and Crepas, while Yajahira is fond of Fresas con Crema, Nachos, and Tejuino. I personally tried a guava raspado and it was delicious. Highly recommend.
La Auténtica is actively looking to grow and improve as a business and is hoping to build a larger clientele in the near future. Make sure to stop by and support a local family owned business in their journey.
La Autentica Ice Cream & Snacks is located at 225 7th St Suite C. Stop by and meet Kimberly and Yajahira, and enjoy some sweet or savory treats!
