The undefeated league leader, Los Banos Tigers continue their dominance in the WAC league against a pass heavy Ceres Bulldogs football team at Ceres High School.
The game kicked off with the Tigers receiving the ball first and marching down the field for a seven yard rushing touchdown by David Herrera (12). The Bulldogs responded back quickly with their own touchdown of their own to bring the game 7-7. However the Tigers struck back even quicker with a one play touchdown pass to Caleb Robertson (12) for 70 yards to put the Tigers in front 14-7. These two teams went back and forth the entire first half as the Tigers edged them out by 7 points right before half time to bring the game 28-21, but the Tigers still needed to close out the Bulldogs in the second half if they wanted to stay undefeated in WAC.
Starting Linebacker, Adan Salas (12), stated, “Going into halftime we knew there were some obvious adjustments that needed to be made defensively, we needed to form a defense that would better suit Ceres’ pass offense. One thing I needed to adjust specifically was deepening my drops to cover the routes underneath. Overall I believed our defense would perform strong in the 2nd half.”
The Bulldogs came out on offense first this time and were stopped by the Tigers defense to force them to punt to give the Tigers offense the ball back. The offense punished the Bulldogs after a 11 yard rushing touchdown by David Herrera to put the Tigers up by two possessions 35-21. The Bulldogs did eventually score again late in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers were too far ahead to catch up. The final score to move the Tigers 5-0 in their league was 35-28.
The Tigers look on pace to go undefeated in their league this season and hopefully clinch a bye for the first week of playoffs.
