Halloween is an exciting time of year where people all over the world express themselves with fun costumes and scoring some free candy! It is seen as the night where people can express themselves in a creative way. But how can we implement being safe on Halloween night?
To begin your night, when carving pumpkins, make sure we have all of those sharp tools held properly and not in the hands of little ones! I am sure that your pumpkin will turn out amazing, even if you ask for help from someone else when carving it. Let’s make the night special, not hurtful.
Secondly, as much as students love trying to reach as many neighborhoods as they can for some candy, it’s very important to keep a pathway of where you are going and staying close to home. It would not be a fun Halloween if you or a younger sibling got lost or taken while wandering in a different pathway in unfamiliar neighborhoods. Remember to always keep your phone on you just in case you do not find your way home and need to call someone for help. Also, never go alone! Make plans with your friends or family to come along with you to get some candy, it would make the night even more thrilling and fun.
Another way to stay safe on this exciting night is to carry some sort of lights with you. From flashlights and light up accessories to some type of reflective tape, it is important to be seen in the night. If you have a bright and shiny costume, you are already set to go!
If you are a new driver this year, keep in mind that people will be crossing the street to reach other neighborhoods. It is important to have your lights on and to make sure to slow down when driving. Even when hanging out with friends, let’s still try to make Halloween night safe for yourself and others.
Lastly, I know we are eager and excited to get into all of the Halloween candy as soon as we get home, but I am sure your parents have taught you the importance of taking candy from strangers. You genuinely never know what people have a motive for, if they are giving you a trick or a treat. Please have a parent search your candy before you eat some. It is very common to get some bad and unsafe candy in your bag from strangers.
Remember these factors are very important to take into consideration for your own safety. Just remember, you are asking for tricks or treats, which some people might try to trick you with endangerment. Be smart, be safe, and be seen. Please enjoy your Halloween night and stay safe friends!
