Trunk or Treat is an all-club-sponsored event at school that is available to the public as an alternative to traditional trick or treating.
On October 28, from 5:00-6:30 pm, the trunk or treat event is open to the local community. The idea is that different clubs each have their own vehicle that holds a basket of candy or assorted items to offer to trick or treaters. Vehicles are usually decorated for Halloween, and some even have music playing.
The event will take place in the student parking lot. Visitors to the event should be prepared to navigate the length of the parking lot by walking. In addition to trunk or treating, the school will also have a haunted house and a kids maze. The kid’s maze will be available from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the Haunted House will be open from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
This year, ASB will be participating in different vehicles with members of the class. Emma Zuniga (12), head of the Trunk or Treat committee, said, “Our cars will all be in spirit with Halloween decorations and candy donated from ASB students.”
The League of United Latin American Citizens club on the other hand, will take part in both the school’s trunk or treat and a city-wide event earlier in the day. They chose to include Dia de los Muertos into their vehicle decorations because the holiday falls close after Halloween.
An officer of LULAC, Destiny Garcia (12) said, “We will be using our club president’s truck to decorate and even decided to take it a step further and dress up as la loteria cards.”
Other locations in town, such as churches, also host this event. It’s more secure than walking out in the middle of the night to gather candy from strangers. Trunk or treating is a safe way to celebrate Halloween while still wearing your costume!
