The Tigers football team now has an outstanding record of 8-1 (6-0 in WAC League). The team is looking to close off the regular season with another undefeated record in league making it back to back undefeated WAC Champs. There is no doubt that the Tigers have plenty of talent on the squad, but some key players for their continued success include Adam Aguilar (12), Cole Ramos (12), Jackson Silva (12), and Joel Alvarenga (12).
Adam Aguilar, wide receiver for the Tigers said, “My mindset going into every game is to play hard and play like it’s my last game.” He currently leads the team in receiving yards and touchdown receptions. When asked what has helped with his continued success, he stated, “What has helped is the coaches having faith in me and my quarterback giving me the opportunities to do so.”
Two other key players for the team are lineman, Jackson Silva, and running back, Joel Alvarenga. Alvarenga currently has 149 attempted carries for 966 yards and eight touchdowns on the season. With one game left in the regular season, he hopes to achieve over a thousand yards rushing and ten touchdowns.
The Tigers offensive line is anchored by three-year varsity starter Jackson Silva, transitioned from right guard to center. When asked what his bond was like with the rest of the starting O-Line as well as the quarterback, he said, “My bond with the o-line is good. We’ve all gotten super close over these past two years being on varsity together and all the hard work we’ve all put in has really brought us together. My bond with our quarterback is also super strong as we’ve been best friends since kindergarten and we’ve always been like brothers. Just knowing each other super well and having an idea of how each other are feeling during a game and just understanding each other helps a bunch. He treats me good as well as the rest of our o-line, always gives us a pat on the back and is super humble. Just one of the guys.”
The Tigers finish their regular season off against their biggest rivalry of all, the Pacheco Panthers. Keep an eye out for these key players as they prepare for the “Crosstown Clash.” The game will take place on October 27, 2023. Let’s go Tigers!
