The Los Banos High boys basketball tryouts have begun. Many boys are coming out and giving it their all to make the team. Some will be lucky to make it, others not so much.
Last year’s team had a successful season, but there are several spots available due to seven seniors who graduated. The 2022-2023 team finished the season with a 19-7 record and a playoff loss to Central Catholic. Returning varsity players are Caleb Robertson (12), Evan Rebosa (12), Tanner Waltman (12), and Yahir Zuniga (11).
Head coach Gonzalo Rodriguez is looking forward to moving up a lot of underclassmen due to a small number of returners. This year’s team will not have the size that last year’s team did. The team this year will rely on their speed and their shooting. Eric Ramos (10) is expected to have a great season. He won the MVP award on JV as a freshman. His shooting ability is going to be a weapon for the Tiger offense.
The Tigers look forward to having another successful season. Starting point guards Caleb Robertson and Evan Rebosa are this year’s team captains. They look to be great leaders for the younger players this year. Rebosa said, “I look forward to seeing these younger guys progress and I will make sure they will give it their hardest every practice.”
With football season still going on, there are no official rosters yet. When football season is over, there will be separate tryouts for all of the football players trying out. With the first game coming up on November 15, the Tigers will be short some players, but the team will make sure they are ready to take on the El Capitan Gauchos.
