The Los Banos Tigers and Pacheco Panthers squared off in the cross town clash to have rights of being the “better high school” on October 27.
The game kicked off with the Panthers getting the ball first and the Tigers shutting them out in the first drive. The Tigers offense took over and drove down the field to score the first points of the game by a 35 yard passing touchdown from David Herrera (12) to Adam Aguilar (12). The Tigers showed no mercy to the Panthers on the defensive side of the ball by holding them to zero points in the first half. The first half ended with the Tigers leading 12-0 by a passing and rushing touchdown by David Herrera to put them ahead.
Starting slot receiver and cornerback, Adam Aguilar, gave his thoughts on the Tigers first half performance, “I felt we should’ve put way more points on the board. The defense was doing their job well and the offense just couldn’t finish when we had the chance to score.”
The Panthers kicked the ball off to the Tigers to start the second half and Cade Torres (12) took the kickoff for a touchdown to put the Tigers up 19-0. Unfortunately the Panthers did storm back into the second half to bring the lead down to 3. The score was 19-16 halfway through the second half. In the fourth quarter David Herrera scored a four yard rushing touchdown to make the lead 26-16. The defense would hold out the Panthers from scoring again the rest of the game and the Tigers would win the crosstown clash 26-16.
The Tigers would get the win, but it seemed that the Tigers felt like they should have done a better job. A win is a win and the Tigers become officially the undefeated WAC Champions.
The Los Banos Tigers moved onto the postseason and clinched a first round bye. The Tigers faced the Center Cougars on November 10 at Loftin Stadium in the second round of playoffs with another win with a final score of 30-7.
