On November 7, the girls tennis team won in the second round of playoffs beating Pioneer High School, the number one seed. The girls moved onto the finals held November 9. The girls final score was 6-3 with all three doubles teams winning and top three singles winning as well.
The number one doubles team was April Cunha and Julianne Gurgen with a final score of 6-3 and 6-1. Going into the match, both girls were nervous but overall excited and ready to win. Gurgen stated, “Going into the match, I was honestly really nervous but after warming up, it was easier to relax.” During the match the girls played well and both put in their best efforts to win. Gurgen felt that she played well but could have done better.
The tennis team’s number 2 singles player Melina Mejia won her individual match as well with going into a third set tie breaker with an end score of 6-1, 2-6, and 6-0. Mejia stated, “I felt prepared for whatever challenge I was going to face. I know what I’m capable of doing so as long as I trust myself and hit my spots then I knew I was going to be fine heading into the match.”
Before the match starts the girls all prepare themselves for the match in their own way. Mejia stated, “I kept a calm mind during warm ups and just thought to myself to be relaxed and have a loose arm.” Gurgen also had her own way of getting prepared by listening to music and hydrating.
