The National Honor Society has started accepting students this year now that first quarter grades are complete. Students can sign up until November 17.
The National Honor Society is an academic club that focuses on developing and honoring the academic achievements of the students with 3.0 gpa or higher in classes. NHS places importance on character development. Through various activities and experiences, members are encouraged to develop and exhibit positive character traits, such as integrity, responsibility, and respect. There are many benefits to being in the NHS including an honor cord and a stamp that goes on diplomas. Students can also use the NHS program as an achievement for college applications. It can enhance a student’s resume or college application, demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and community service.
By joining the NHS, students also have multiple scholarship opportunities. Also, the group does community service and meets once a month to discuss community projects, etc.
One of the pillars of the National Honor Society is service. Members are encouraged to participate in community service activities, providing them with opportunities to give back to their communities and develop a sense of civic responsibility. Last year, NHS made posters and advertised around campus about Red Ribbon Week and drug use awareness. The club has many plans for this year that are still in the works.
NHS advisor, Mrs. Lampreda said, “Just do it! Students deserve to be recognized for their hard work.”
There are a total of 735 LBHS students who qualify to be a NHS member which is a great reflection of our school and helps students develop leadership skills to positively impact their school and community.
To be part of the NHS, students need to verify that they qualified to join and then, they can make a $15 payment in the LBHS webstore by November 17.
