The Interact Club is hosting their annual Candy Cane fundraiser during December 4 through December 8 in the student store.
Students can send a candy cane and a Christmas message to their friends for only two dollars. Delivery will take place the same week. All the profits will go to buying gifts for children who are part of our local Angel Tree Program. Last year, Interact club raised enough money to purchase Christmas gifts for twelve children in our community.
Advisor, Mrs. Kimberly McCullough said, “It amazes me how each year the club has raised more money than the last allowing the Interact Club to purchase gifts for many children needing some Christmas joy.”
The Angel Tree Program focuses on giving back to the community. The Angel Tree program allows the people in the community to purchase a gift for children who are in need. This is for children between the ages 17 or younger. To get on this list the school nurses at several schools recommend children for the Angel Tree list. After Thanksgiving, trees go up in town with paper angels. This paper angels have the children’s age, gender, and a gift wish.
McCullough said, “All of our community events the club participates in are worthwhile, but the Angel Tree has always been an important part of my family and holds a special place in my heart. Not only did my daughter and her friends create this fundraiser, but within our own family traditions, giving to the Angel Tree has been an important part of our holiday season.”
The Interact club will also be helping with the Los Banos Empty Bowls Fundraiser on December 7. This fundraiser is held by the Rotary Club, Arts Council and the Los Banos Unified School District. This fundraiser is a powerful message within the community because it symbolizes that maybe this one bowl of soup could be someone’s only meal.
Community attendees will enjoy a simple bowl of soup and bread, and they will be able to choose one handmade ceramic bowl from hundreds made by either a Rotarian, a student, a teacher, or other community members. All the money the Los Banos Rotary Club makes goes to the local food banks and the Feed the Need Program. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. at the Arts Council building downtown.
