The girls’ and boys’ 2023-2024 basketball season is officially in full swing!
Pre-season games began mid November and league will officially begin mid December and go until early February for all levels, both girls and boys. Although the beginning has brought some losses for boys varsity, such as the one to Pacheco (58-60), all levels hope to continue a strong season full of improvements.
Evan Rebosa (12), boys varsity starting point guard, said, “I feel good about this season and am excited that we have a young team. It’s the last year in this league so I feel like we have to leave a mark in the league before leaving.”
Considering this is Rebosa’s last season of his high school career, he also said, “I hope we make playoffs just like we did last year.” Last season, the boys varsity team´s hard work paid off and they made it to the first round of playoffs. However, different from last year, he hopes to make it past the first round of playoffs this time.
Velen Fajardo (11), girls varsity starting post, expressed her sentiment towards the friendships basketball has brought her. She stated, ¨My favorite part about coming back into the season is getting to spend so much time with my teammates and become seasonal sisters again. Some of the friendships we have created would have never been possible without basketball.¨
Unlike Rebosa´s excitement for the youth they have on their team, Fajardo thinks the team will have to work even harder on creating bonds. She stated, ¨I believe one of the hardships we will face this season is our chemistry since we have a range of freshmen-seniors. Chemistry is so important because it affects the way we play and our ability to make solid plays.¨
All levels of basketball will continue with practices and games through Christmas break.Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. However, if a student has ASB, they get in for free. Below are the times and dates of all levels’ next home games.
Girls Frosh/Soph: Monday, December 11 at 4:30pm
JV boys: Monday, December 11 but at 4:30pm
JV girls: Monday, December 11 at 6:00pm
Girls varsity: Monday, December 11 at 7:30pm
Boys varsity: Tuesday, December 19 at 7:30pm
Frosh/Soph boys: Wednesday, January 3 at 4:30pm
