The girls wrestling team took second place in the Lady Royals tournament on December 2 located in San Jose. In total they had four placers with Angeina Borelli taking first place out of her weight class and an outstanding lower weight title.
For each weight class they bring one girl and in some cases two. The girls have prepared all of the week prior to the tournament to get themselves ready and prepared with their coaches guidance. They took beginners and returners to this tournament to give the beginners a chance to wrestle varsity and to challenge the team more. The beginners already had a chance to experience a tournament the weekend prior to this tournament, but they all wrestled other beginners.
Borelli took the champion title out of her weight class as only a freshman, but she has been wrestling years prior outside of school. She works very hard in practice and puts in the work that gets her where she is today. Borelli is a positive person and is always willing to help teach the beginners and help support her teammates in every way possible. Borelli has been wrestling for almost nine years alongside her brothers.
Borelli was excited about her win; however, she feels that she couldn’t have done it without her team by her side. Borelli stated, “My accomplishments wouldn’t be possible without the team. They help me everyday and make those hard days more enjoyable.”
Although the wins are enjoyable, Borelli’s main focus is to place at state and that win was just a small part of working her way towards that.
The next match that she and her wrestling team will take on is January 2nd.
