Over a hundred organizations/families donate to LBHS Scholarship Program every year for senior students preparing for their next journey in college. Over the years, the amount of total money that has been given to students through this program has increased. This past year, the class of 2023 had accumulated nearly $100,000 through the LBHS Scholarship Program. This year doesn’t seem to change that trend.
The LBHS Scholarship Program begins January 27 on Saturday in the MPB from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.. This is otherwise known as Scholarship Saturday, when all the local scholarships are to open for all the students qualified for the opportunity. All of these scholarships are different and not every student will qualified for every single scholarship offered. Each scholarship is different in terms of requirements needed. Some require academic success or athletic requirements or even just a 2.5 GPA, etc. However, most of them do require essays to be attached for an opportunity for the scholarship. There is no limit on how many scholarships a student can apply to, so don’t wait till the last minute. The process isn’t long nor difficult. Each scholarship is likely to take two to three hours, yet in return, students have a good chance to win money for their future.
Some more important deadlines to come after Scholarship Saturday are Pride Time scholarship workshops that will happen every Friday during the month of February in room 403 starting on the second day of the month. The last day to submit applications for the scholarships will be on the last Friday of February, which is the 23rd at 3 p.m. to room 403. The scholarships will be awarded on May 15 at 5 p.m.
Science teacher, Mrs. Souza, is leading this program on campus through her Google classroom (class code: 7az77ae). In the google classroom, students will find more information on the program and any updates that will follow throughout this year. In interviewing Mrs. Souza on why senior students should take advantage of this opportunity, she said, “In previous years, it has been shown that students that partake in the program usually are more likely to be successful after high school.”
So, seniors, go after the opportunities in front of you! Visit Mrs. Souza’s classroom, room 403, if you have any questions and sign up for the Google classroom.
