The Boys Varsity basketball team took on Johansen on January 8, 2024 at home in the Tiger Gym.
The team started off hot jumping to a ten point lead in the first quarter. With steady scoring and persistence, they continued to dominate through the first quarter. Unfortunately, the team seemed complacent and ended up having a tied game in the beginning of the second quarter with the score being 32-32. The game continued to be back and forth in the first half with some stellar scoring by shooting guard Caleb Robertson (12), and some good ball movement by point guard Evan Rebosa (12). This was not enough to push a lead for the boys as they started declining towards the end of the third quarter. The fourth and final quarter was a nightmare for the team as Johnson continued to put up three point shot after three point shot. The boys ultimately were defeated in the end with a final score of 70-35.
Rebosa said, “The loss is very significant to the season because it ruins the playoff picture and a loss we did not need. Overall, the team morale is down.”
When asked about the weak points of the game, center/guard Yahir Zuniga (11) stated, “Bad shot selection and not being able to break the press.”
Rebosa also stated he thought weak points of the game involved turnovers and defense. He also felt that the only bright side of the game was the ball movement from the whole team.
The team hoped to bounce back after this loss in their match up against Mountain House, but unfortunately, they could not with a finishing score of 74-42. This has significantly hurt the seeding in playoffs. The team plays Lathrop on January 19 at an away game.
