There is a new epidemic of young girls (generation alpha) going crazy over products being sold in Sephora. Sephora is a global beauty chain that offers a wide range of classic and emerging brands in makeup, skincare, fragrance, body-care, and hair care categories. Sephora is predominantly known for selling makeup and a lot of trending products, which raises the question, what are children doing at Sephora?
There have been many people on the platform of TikTok telling their own personal stories of encounters with children at Sephora, and most of these stories are bewildering. Ten year old girls are going crazy over Drunk Elephant skincare products and make messes with the tester products available at each section. The girls proceed to make what employees call ‘Drunk Elephant smoothies’ from all the products being mixed together.
Many Sephora employees themselves have posted content regarding these children being chaotic and brats. Some have even commented that Sephora should have people’s IDs checked in order to enter, or for children to be supervised by adults.
Even customers have posted information in the customer support section of Sephora, clearly expressing dissatisfaction such as,“… 10-13 year old kids are taking so much space at Sephora. They are being disrespectful to the customers and employees. I’ve even heard people being directly insulted by them. Plus, they are always messing up with testers, emptying them and mixing different products. For people like me who really want to analyze a product before buying it, it’s really inconvenient.” – Loyle
“Either Sephora needs to enforce an age restriction, or they need to be supervised and have to pay for the products they destroy. Parents please please please supervise your kids.” -nessanmarie
What is the reason for these young girls to go into these makeup stores? Could it be that they don’t have a store like Claires or Pink to shop at anymore. Or social media influencing them to grow up too fast, not letting these young girls have a childhood. And instead having them worry about using all these skincare products which their young faces don’t even need yet. Are social media platforms such as TikTok influencing young girls of today to grow up too fast? Are parents responsible for this, or the lack of places for children to go in and run around at. Is it our society?
