Carlos juco, co-host of one the most popular podcasts of recent times, Jumper jump has decided to revolutionize the mascot and worldwide icon Spider-man. He announced that he was working on this project which will be called “SPIDER-MAN: RAF VOL.1” on January 3 of this year which will have three volumes and this film will be the starting point.
This film will be a film about a troubled Filipino Spider-Man Variant from Toronto. This is without question the most meaningful project that Carlos has worked on so far. Carlos stated on his Instagram account, “Growing up as a young Canadian-born Filipino in an immigrant household, there were not many heroes that looked like me.”
He added, “Honestly there wasn’t any growing up at all besides Manny Pacquiao. This is a true story and I’ll never forget this, but back in the day when we would play pretend at recess and we would pretend to be superheroes. Someone told me I couldn’t be Spiderman… because Spiderman’s not Asian. I didn’t look like him. And as a kid that kinda sucked.” That was his favorite hero. Nowadays it’s good that Marvel & Sony brought the concept of the multiverse to the mainstream, tons of new Spiderman variants of all sorts of ethnicities came to the big screen, but Carlos states that “we’re missing just one.”
Through is Instagram account, Carlos stated, “I want to bring a superhero that kid would be proud to say is his own and on a level as cool we can call Spider-Man. But I wanna do it differently of course and with this story, Raf Montera won’t have a story of an average hero. I want to tackle the idea of “what would you really do if you had super powers”. You’ll have to wait to hear/see more about how this story will unfold.”
This project means so much to him that he took a trip to the Philippines and immersed himself in the culture since he has been living in Toronto for his life and wants to make the film actually have something the viewers can connect with. So far he has dropped various snippets and previews on some of his many social media platforms like the Jumpers jump podcast and even his Instagram Carlosjuico. He is premiering the movie on February 5 at the Tiff lightbox in Ontario, and it will come out February 21.
