Winter sports season has officially ended and spring sports have kicked off with golf being one of them.
Los Banos High School’s golf team has returned and the players are looking ready to make a playoff run. They have a few returning golfers with Gannon Lemos (11) and Cole Ramos (12) being few of those returners. The Tigers also have recruited a new coach and history teacher, Mr. Christensen. This Tiger team has been to the playoffs for the past two years in a row, and the team is hoping to keep the streak going this year.
Gannon Lemos (11) shared his thoughts on the season. “I feel pretty good, I definitely believe I can make it to playoffs, if not me, the team can.”
Cole Ramos also added, “I’m looking forward to this season. It is my senior year, and I have very high hopes for our team.”
Coach Christensen agrees with his players saying, “I’m excited for this season. It’s my first year coaching here, and we have a lot of potential.”
The Tigers will start their season off at a scrimmage on March 27, where they will play against all the teams in the league. During this scrimmage they will showcase their new and improved team with their new six golfer lineup. This lineup consists of many returners and a few golfers that are to be determined, but the Tigers will unveil this new and revamped lineup on March 27.
Practices start practice during sixth period with golfers who have no sixth period. They can hit on the simulator tweaking their golf swings and warming up for the practice day. After school, players move to the field where they will practice power control on flags at 50, 150, and 175 yards. Then they practice hitting a flag they call out. This practice routine has made the Tigers successful these past years.
Students can still join golf if interested. See Mr. Christensen in room 8.
