All of the teachers at LBHS school work hard to provide and teach for their students. One of these teachers is Mrs. Meghan Souza. She has been teaching Environmental Science, but this year, she is also teaching AP Biology. On top of that she is also the Science department head and the scholarship advisor. She maintains all of her work by keeping a calendar with all of her scheduled activities. This helps her stay organized and on top of the different activities that she has to do.
Mrs. Souza has been teaching for 14 years. She was an Ag teacher at Johansen High School in Modesto for six years. When she had her first daughter it was a challenge to commute back and forth, so she found a job here at LBHS and has been teaching ever since.
Her husband, Brian Souza, is an alumni. Souza said, “It is enjoyable to teach where he graduated from.” When Souza is not in school teaching, she is either riding her horse or hanging out with her two daughters, Hazel and Holly.
Many of her AP Biology students had kind words to share about her. America Estrada (12), said, “ Mrs. Souza is a very nice and understanding teacher. She is always ready to help us out, and is always making class a fun and exciting environment/place for us.” Krishnaa Vala (11), said, “Mrs. Souza has been one of the most memorable teachers we have ever been blessed to be in the presence of, her class is rigorous but educational and each day I look forward to the new information I will learn.” Sophia Guinto (12), said, “Mrs. Souza is a very influential and motivating teacher on LBHS campus. It is evident that she strives to push her students every day to their fullest potential.” Souza is an inspiration to every student that she has taught.
Souza moved here to Los Banos in 2015, before that she was living in Tracy, where she graduated high school from. Teaching was her original dream job; there was no back plan for her if teaching didn’t work out. Souza wanted to be a teacher like her high school Ag teacher who influenced her.
After high school she went to Stanislaus to get her Bachelor degree and then to California Poly to get her masters degree.
Several staff members on campus had nice things to say about Souza. Mrs. Chandra Lee, Student Advocate, stated, “Souza or should I say “a force to be reckoned with.” Souza is an amazing teacher. She thinks outside of the box to get her students interested in science. I can always count on her sense of humor to get me through the day.”
Mrs. Lisa Pritsch, freshman science teacher, stated, “Mrs. Souza is dedicated to her students, peers and family. She is always concerned about the well being of her students and peers and is always willing to lend a helping hand when needed.”
We are all grateful on the LBHS campus for Mrs. Souza and all of the hard work she does for our school.
