Mrs. Danielle Cavazos, is one of the Los Banos High School music directors. Mrs. Cavazos teaches Beginning & Intermediate Piano, Performance Band, Jazz Band, Colorguard. She has been teaching at Los Banos High School since 2016. She has taught percussion as a coach at various junior high and high schools around the Merced area from 2010-2016.
Mrs. Cavazos interests growing up were volleyball and marine animals. “I played volleyball for a few years in school. When I was young, I was really interested in marine animals. I remember doing a whole research project on marine animals over summer one year, simply because I wanted to learn more about them.”
Nowadays her interests consist of listening to podcasts of true crime and is a huge Disney fan. “I listen to podcasts regularly, mostly consisting of true crime and paranormal stories. I am a huge Disney fan and go to Disneyland regularly. I also love the Harry Potter series. My favorite animals are cats.”
Mrs. Cavazos graduated from Golden Valley High School, then CSU Stanislaus with a Bachelors of Music degree and then received her teaching credential from CSU Stanislaus. Mrs. Cavazos has always been a teacher since a young age. She said, “I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I enjoyed school and loved most of my teachers. I have always wanted to help and encourage students.”
When asked about any other possible career plans, Mrs. Cavazos said, “In high school, I briefly considered being an optometrist. In college, I briefly considered getting into psychology. I definitely think I made the right choice going into teaching, though.”
Mrs. Cavazos favorite part of teaching is the students she interacts with. She engages with students and believes they are what helps her make it through a day at work. “The students. That sounds cliche, but the students truly are the reason why I teach. I enjoy getting to work with them everyday. When things get difficult and it feels like this job is too much to handle, the students are what help me pull through.”
As a music teacher, Mrs. Cavazos does have a favorite instrument to play. She shared that, “In college, I studied clarinet and that is my main instrument; however, I started music in fourth grade on marimba, and continued to play marimba throughout school. I truly love playing both clarinet and marimba. I can’t choose which one is my favorite between those two.”
Further interests about Mrs. Cavazos in the music department said that her favorite subject to teach is Performance Band, which is the reason why she became a music teacher. Now, her favorite band to teach is Concert Band because of the special place she holds for the band in her heart. Speaking about holding special interests at heart when Mrs. Cavazos was asked about who her favorite Disney character was and she said, “Mulan and Eeyore.”
