On March 7, the LBHS swim team had a scrimmage against Pacheco High School and Dos Palos High School. This meet was just practice to get the feel of a real meet and to show many of the beginner swimmers how meets work. This year the swim team has many new swimmers joining the team making this year’s team bigger than ever.
There are four coaches working with the team this season. Coach Paige and Coach Todd work with the more advanced swimmers, while Mrs. Taylor helps and works with the beginners and Coach Ari coaches both groups of kids.
Gannon Lemos who has known how to swim since 10 months old and has been competitively swimming since he was six years old swam the 500 freestyle and the 100 butterfly at the scrimmage. Lemos stated, “I really enjoyed the events I chose and I decided to do those since I knew I would be doing those events the following day.” Lemos went into the scrimmage with the goal of beating his previous times in his events which he succeeded at this meet.
Velen Fajado, who just joined the swim team this year and used to do swimming when she was younger, swam the 100 breaststroke and the 50 free. Fajardo stated, “I chose these events to try and beat my time and do better in my 50 free, and I wanted to try something new by trying the 100 breaststroke.” Fajardo went into the meet nervous after she had not competitively swam in over six years, but overall, she had a great experience.
Overall the team did well against DPHS and PHS and many swimmers got to try new strokes they normally wouldn’t try in a League meet.
The next swim meet is on March 14 at Pacheco.
