The Jazz Band had their annual Jazz Festival at Stockton’s Pacific University on March 2, 2024 at 3:00-4:00 P.M.
The Jazz band arrived at 11 a.m. to the Los Banos High School campus and left for Stockton at 12 p.m. The band arrived at 3 p.m. which had the B Jazz group warm up and perform. The B Jazz performed three pieces titled “Preacher,” “Long Lost Friend,” and “Curacao Blue.”
These three pieces contained soloists Sarah Sowersby and Elizabeth Guardado. Sowersby, who soloed in “Preacher,” said, “I ate, but I did mess up during the beginning of my solo.” While Guardado who soloed for “Long Lost Friend” and “Curacao Blue” said, “For ‘Long Lost Friend,’ I was pretty accurate to the original song. The only downside was that I could’ve added more soul to it, and with “Curacao Blue,” I did pretty good as well. I just wish I played with it more.”
After the B Jazz performance, the group attended a clinic which provided feedback to the group of what improvements could be made towards the pieces.
Later, the A Jazz warmed up at 4:00-4:30 p.m. and performed three different pieces titled “Walking Shoes,” “Time after Time,” and “Poco Loco.” The soloists for these pieces were Elizabeth Guardado and Ailyn Mena. Guardado soloed for “Walking Shoes” and “Time After Time.” She said, “For ‘Walking Shoe,’ I did pretty well was tone and rhythm were accurate. My downside was the need for more passion, and ‘Time After Time,’ my solo was to the original, but it needed more musical elements on my part.”
Ailyn Mena was the vocalist for “Time After Time.” She believes she did pretty well with her con on the event was not knowing how the microphone worked.
Like B Jazz, A Jazz attended their clinic and were told about improvements that could be made within the song pieces.
With the feedback received from these clinics both A and B Jazz bands were able to improve and enhance their performances for their annual Spring Concert that took place on March 6, 2024.
