I was chosen to participate as one of the “walking dead” with the Every 15 Minutes program. This was an eye-opening event for me. I am grateful for the opportunity to be one of the students selected and to make a difference in my school.
When I was selected to “die,” I was in Mrs. Seaborn’s class, listening to a presentation from a guest speaker. Then, the grim reaper slammed the door wide open and called out my name in a deep scary voice. I then was escorted to the ASB room and was given many different snacks and lunch was provided. After waiting a couple of hours, all of the walking dead had to wait out in the quad in front of our gravestones with written obituaries on them. Painting my face was my least favorite of this experience as it made us all look bad. Later on in the day when school ended, we took a bus ride to the Mission out in Santa Nella. We played games, got our hotel rooms situated, and got to eat In-n-Out for dinner.
My roommates were very fun and had a good time as well. My favorite game that we played that night was probably playing hot potato. During dinner time, we had a guest speaker come and talk about her experience with losing her family to a car accident. The room got very emotional as she discussed her feelings.
The next morning was my own funeral where my baby and recent pictures were up on a slideshow. Watching the clip of the car accident was very emotional for everyone there. My parents going was also kind of emotional for me. I could tell that mine and everyone else’s parents who went were very emotional.
This whole experience has taken a toll on me to never drink and drive as it can lead to hardship and ruin someone’s life. I hope everyone who attended the funeral can realize the serious dangers of driving under the influence.
I want to thank Frank Leonard and the people who contributed all of the snacks and fun activities for us.
