Los Banos High School welcomes new police resource officer, Mr. Luis Beltran.
Officer Beltran is on campus not only for security purposes but is also available for guidance to students, parents, and anyone on campus, not only for questions about the law and or certain law proceedings, but anything else one may need help with. He is responsible for six other school within the school district.
A campus resource officer is an officer addresses any crime-related incidents on school campuses, ensures a safe and secure environment, acts as a liaison between the schools and our police department, and provides essential traffic control for LBUSD schools. Also resource officers offer guidance to guide kids in making good decisions, follow the law, stay out of trouble, but can also provide guidance with life as kids grow older. Campus resource officers are also on campus to not only help students but provide information to the parents of students and help guide parents what they can do for their child.
He said while this is his first year as a resource officer, he started off as a community service officer in 2015 and then spent about eight years as a sworn officer. He also comes with a training and investigative background. He deals with other police related matters such as trainings, court, major incidents, etc.
Beltran is bilingual and has been very helpful to students and parents who have a hard time speaking English to better understand the law as well as school rules and has been a great guidance resource.
Beltran said he wanted to take on the role as resource officer for LBHS because he wanted to make more of a difference day-to-day in students’ lives while also stating he is here to stay. He said, “It has been nice to help and give advice to kids who are entering the workforce or going off to college.”
Beltran said one of his favorite parts of his job is interacting with kids at lunch or just around campus and getting to know and building connections with students.
Officer Beltran said it’s a rewarding feeling to be able to provide a comfortable environment and setting to students and parents about any questions they may have with the law, police department, or just anything in general.
Beltran said, “I like to be able to represent the police department in a positive manner with positive outcomes.”
If you have any questions or need to speak with officer Beltran, students can find him around campus or in his office located in the attendance office. First ask the attendance ladies if he is available, but he has an open office policy meaning he is there to talk if anyone needs it as long as he is available to do so.
