Justin Gould (11) has been playing sports since he was a young child, however tennis has been his most successful sport. This year, Justin has moved from being at the number five rank from last year, to now being number one. Justin has been working very hard this year. He has lessons from coaches J.T. Barcellos and Lynn Barcellos to help him improve. So far, Gould has been dominating his singles matches, being 3-1 so far.
Gould has a lot of weight on his shoulders for being number one, but he will continue to improve his game and become a problem in the league. When asked what he has done to become number one, he said, “I have just been putting a whole ton of work in outside of practice. I dedicated myself to climb up the rankings and I knew I was capable of being number one.” He has definitely proved his point and has shown numerous reasons why he should be first.
So far, he has been a major reason why the Tigers tennis team has had success this year. There have been a lot of new players who look up to Gould. He has shown leadership by helping out his newer teammates and helping them develop their game.
In order to be an athlete, you must be a student first. Gould has been able to maintain A’s and B’s throughout the year. He has managed to do well in his classes while also putting in a lot of time practicing. During tennis season, the top 16 players get excused early. The excused time for home games is 1:45 p.m. while the away games are 12:20 p.m. It is not easy to be missing all of that class time and still being able to keep up with grades.

Justin’s next watch will be at Johansen High School on April 3. Gould looks to top his next opponent and continue to thrive.
