As we end the halfway point of the season, the Los Banos tennis team has already shown great determination and skill on the court.
With a record of 5 wins as 2 losses, the team has proven they can make a deep run into playoffs. Led by their experienced coaches, Mrs. Barcellos and Mr. J.T Barcellos, the players have been working hard at practice and have dedicated themselves to improving their game. When asked what the expectations for the rest of the season was, Mr. J.T. Barcellos said, “I am glad with how the first half of the season went. We need to stay focused and continue to work hard at practice. We will hopefully end up second place in the league which will make us the number one seed in the playoffs.”
One of the key factors of the team’s success has been their strong singles players. With their strong serves and with great footwork, the singles players have been able to outmatch most of their opponents, leading to Tiger victories. In particular, juniors Justin Gould and Nick Tova have been outstanding. Their leadership on and off the court has been a major part in the teams overall success.
However, it is not just the singles players that have been excellent so far. The doubles teams have managed to win every game besides one. The first doubles team is Eric Ramos (10) and Jacob Camarillo (10). The second doubles team is Javier Estrada (12) and Nelson Fabian (9). The third doubles team is Yahir Zuniga (11) and Sebastian Poalini (11). With their great communication and teamwork, all three doubles teams have become a major reason why the team wins. When the Tigers traveled to play Lathrop, only three out of the six singles players won. This meant that it came down to the doubles. All three doubles teams were able to come out victorious which resulted in a much needed win for the Tigers.
This season hasn’t been without its challenges. The team has faced tough opponents and there have been many close and intense matches. The Tigers have won every game so far besides Mountain House. The final score of the game was 0-9 Mountain House. The Tigers have not beaten them since they came into the league. Mountain House will end up going into division 2 playoffs.
As the season continues, the Tigers look to make a deep playoff run and show their dominance. With their strong performances thus far, there is no doubt that the Tigers will make the playoffs. Their next match will be held at Los Banos High School against the Lathrop Spartans on April 15, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.
