The Los Banos Tiger’s golf team has started their league matches and have been holding steady.
The Tigers have played two matches already and placed second in both. The first match they played at Modesto Creekside golf course and placed second with Beyer beating them. At this match they took golfers Gannon Lemos (11), Brockton Borelli (11), Cole Ramos (12), Evan Rebosa (12), Larry Borelli (12), and Jared Van Loben sels (11) with their highest score of 107.
Then the Tiger’s traveled to Manteca golf course the following week with golfers Lemos, van Loben Sels, Ramos, Rebosa, L. Borelli, and added Grant Jones (12) to the lineup they took second here and their highest score was 118.
Coach Christensen, said, “I’m excited for the upcoming matches we’re getting better and better as the season goes, those two matches we dropped are alright. We will get them back in league finals.”
Lemos has been hot this season starting with a 1.8 handicap, meaning he averages 1.8 strokes over a 72 par course. He is looking forward to these next few rounds where he might be able to bring his handicap to a 0 which labels him a scratch golfer which will deem him the best golfer in the Western Athletic Conference stat wise.
Lemos said, “ I’m doing good, I shot 77 and 79 these past few matches, I’m tied for league MVP right now so this season is going very well so far for me and us if I go low, we all go low.”
Lemos also wanted to say this about his team, “As a three year returner on this team and with my knowledge of Tiger golf I strongly believe this team is one of the best teams in recent years. We just blend from off the course and on, and we take this seriously, but we also have a good time playing as well. The boys and I enjoy golf and we’ll just play on any course at any time together willingly. I think that is what makes us good.”
Brockton Borelli added, “Man, I love this team. We crack jokes and make each other laugh while doing what we love best. This is the most I have had fun with a team outside of wrestling. These guys are my buddies and we always push each other to be the best we could be whether it is giving each other tips or just making each other mad, so we are forced to play better. We are just the best there is plain and simple; we just play to excellence.”
The Tigers are behind Beyer and Mountain House but are sitting comfortably in third place. They will have to gain back points in the league finals where the points count as double and this match will take place in Chowchilla on April 30.
They face a Pacheco team next week on April 17 where the Tigers are looking to sweep them and make a dominant win. They also seek a deep playoff run this year with sections being held at Yolo Fliers in Woodland California. Hopefully, the Tigers can seal the deal throughout the rest of the league and win it all.
