With the May Day Fair coming up from April 29 – May 5, students from the Los Banos Ag department are preparing for their different projects to make a difference in their future farming career.
Students get the time slot of working on their projects from April and May along with also creating a speech to discuss what their item does and how it impacts their career for the future. All Ag students creating a project have a purpose for their creation that will hopefully blow away buyers or with their personal use and/or farmer use.
After visiting with Mr. Hill’s class, Luna Munguia (10), and Raylynn McLaren (9) are two students who are submitting cutting board projects into the May Day Fair. The girls described that they used different types of wood to give them saturated colors. Both cutting boards range from the price of $40.
McLaren said after the fair she will be keeping her project as it is something she is proud of and spent a lot of time on. Munguia stated that she would be giving her cutting board to her mom as a Mother’s Day gift. Both girls had two weeks to work on this project and they are both coming out beautiful.
Another Ag Woodshop student, Melanie Rodriguez (10), is creating a jewelry box made with maple wood. She described the box to be one of her favorite pieces she has made since she has stained it with oil as well to give it some shine. Rodriguez explained that she had been working on the project for two months and it has been a great experience creating as she hopes to join the architecture career someday.
Lastly, Esmeralda Lopez Arroyo (12), is a student who is a participant in the Ag Floral class. She said she will be submitting her wreath project which is made out of styrofoam and tule. “In our class, we had three entire days to get our wreath done, and we all agreed in my class for everyone to submit our wreath projects into the fair this year. My wreath is white with some fluffy blue pieces throughout it, I hope someone at the fair will be interested to buy it.”
Many FFA students have lots of other different projects such as trailers and welding projects. Stop by the May Day fair and check out these pieces of art.
