Arianna Flores (12) is a multi-sport student athlete.
Flores has done track and field, basketball, tennis, and even flag football all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Since a young age Flores has always been exposed to sports, but until her freshman year, she started participating in them. Growing up Flores watched her older siblings play sports which further influenced sports into her life. Enjoying the sport is what motivates Flores to engage in the activity she said, “What motivates me is the feeling I get while playing it. I love having fun and playing sports is fun.”
When asked what her favorite sport is she said, “I don’t have a favorite sport, but I would say I enjoy either tennis or track the most. They’re sports where you can focus solely on your performance while also encouraging your teammates.”
Athletes always face hardship when playing their sport. Flores said, “I wouldn’t say I’ve encountered any major hardships playing sports, probably just mentally wise especially when I’m not performing the greatest. Usually I talk to my coaches and ask them if there is anything specifically that I’m doing wrong and if I can fix it. Then I try to fix it but if it’s just a bad day then it’s a bad day, and I’ll go to practice the next day to improve and make sure bad days aren’t as bad.” Luckily, Flores has never encountered any injury that would prevent her from playing sports.
Regardless of hardships, Flores still sees sports being a part of her future. “I don’t think sports would be a part of my future professionally, definitely as something on the side, but we’ll see what happens.”
Flores is still undecided of what university to attend, but she plans on majoring in biology or pre-med. Her career goal is to become a general surgeon. Regardless of Flores choices for the future, she will be on the tennis court a lot.
