The underground scene recently has been blowing up and thriving with artists like Ian getting co-signs from rappers like Ot7quanny and drake, Lazerdim700´s quick rise to the spotlight from multiple hit songs on TikTok, and Hardrock and Osamason going on their own tours for their most recent albums 1of1 and flex music.
I was lucky enough to experience the “flex music” tour as well as Hardrocks “my gift to you tour,” and it really showed me how the smaller/underground rap community are very connected. Both of the concerts were at the same venue but on separate dates, Osamasons being the first. When I arrived outside the venue of Osamasons concert, all of the people I could see in the line were socializing and were talking about how excited they were to see him. Many of the people in line were exchanging social media and quickly became friends over simple things like liking the other person’s outfit or having the same favorite song.
Inside the venue the vibe changed since everyone that was spread out in the line was now inside a venue that could hold around 100 people. While inside, there was a section where fans could buy merch for the tour as well as a section where they could sit down which was under a red light that gave the room a very ominous ambience which looked very cool in pictures which led to many people taking pictures for each other and sparking new conversations. Once the concert started, the people in the crowd got very excited and sang almost every lyric to each song and started opening up mosh pits and jumping around in them which made the experience that much better.
Mainstream concerts
Although the underground scene has been getting more and more popular, the mainstream has also been in the spotlight for their concerts too.
The mainstream fans got to see Drake have his very first tour since 2018 which sparked all his fans’ interests and ticket prices sprung up to almost $1,000 for his “It’s all a blur” tour. Not only was Drake getting all the attention, Coachella 2024 has seen the most success they have seen in the last couple of years. Coachella is a music festival that takes place in Indio, California every year. It consists of many big artists and different music genres. Coachella out done themselves this year with people saying it was one of the best Coachella ever. This year’s festival fans would say revived them. Coachella up until recently was a dying festival because it has not seen as many views as they have seen in the past, but this year, thanks to artists like Lana Del Ray, ice spice and Lil uzi vert, there is a new positive take on this event.
Even though the underground concerts have a very raw feeling which is makes the audience feel more closer to the artists, mainstream concerts are more sought out for by fans.
