A crazy but exciting time for many seniors at Los Banos High. Just one month to go, and they’ll be closing a big chapter of their lives, with mixed feelings of final exams, graduation prep, and making those last memories with classmates.
For some seniors it will be a bittersweet moment as they prepare to move on to the next chapter, whether it’s college or the workforce. Some are going to live their last few weeks of senior year to the fullest.
Seniors have many fun activities planned in the months of May and early June. Events include Senior Sunset, Senior Banquet, Grad Night, and most importantly, graduation.
All those events come with a little price, especially on grad night, a trip to Disneyland. It also got some thinking, is it really worth it? That question was asked to Jasmin Nieves and she said, “For it being almost $400, I can see some reasons on why it wouldn’t be, but to me, I really say the money is bad for the fun day of memories with the people I might not see till later on in life or maybe never. It’s all for the experience as kids one last time.”
School for many is a very fun place until it’s their time to leave and begin to really take in their school experience on what they learned over the past 12+ years. When Nieves was questioned about how her school journey has been she said, “It’s been a long 12 years for me. I have really learned a lot about myself and my academics. School has taught me many life lessons and shaped me to the person I am today. A lot of the times, I decided to go to school, but growing up, I have slowly started liking it due to it being over soon. I wish I could go back and really enjoy the times of doing more with my friends.”
Students can say they don’t like school or they will miss it most, but once it’s over it’s over, and there is no second chance to go back to being a kid or seeing friends in the same spot at lunch. School is a massive building block for many kids’ lives around the world and should be looked at as a big book waiting to be read by the ones writing the chapters themselves.
For myself and for some of my friends, it’s going to be a sad moment when this all ends. We have all the memories we have made in the last four years with sports, dances, and even spending time with each other doing bonfires and hangouts. These past 12 years taught myself and many others so many lessons we can’t even explain.
All the different types of teachers, coaches, and staff had so much to do with how we grew as people is way more than they think. Some teachers were our best friends and some coaches were just real about everything and showed us our imperfections and really helped us build and be better.
School has made a huge impact on my life and who I want to be as a person. I hope it can do the same for others and allow them to do it their way.
